We went to Mercato for dinner on a Thursday evening. You could easily walk past this one as the front is tiny and its kinda sheltered by a tree...so keep your eyes open - you don't want to miss it!
When we arrived it was busy, clearly lots of regulars too which is a good sign. It looks very small from outside but past the kitchen is another slightly larger dining space where it's dark and intimate. In the whole restaurant the service was excellent, from the moment we walked through the door without a reservation.
Water was promptly served and the waiter took our wine order. The options by the glass were good and not expensive. Great if you can't decide over red or white!!
My starter the Polpo e Patate was delicious (even though I ordered it by mistake!) and quite substantial. The octopus was perfectly cooked and the dish overall was very moist and full of flavour. They sadly don't make their own pasta so I had the gnocchi (which they do make themselves) with beef and pork ragu. It was truly scrummy. After the large starter size I wasn't able to finish this but it was very very tasty. (So much so that I actually went back a week later on my own just to have it again !!) I'm glad we found this at the start of our six weeks in NYC as it gave us time to go back again. There were so many other things on the menu that I wanted to try!
